McLean Care Community; accessible and flexible services that support individuals and their carers living in the community

Volunteering

When asked what makes their lives meaningful, most people will cheerfully recount the value and joy they get from their social connections; their relationships, and the people they cherish in their lives. Friends, family, partners and community connections give all people a sense of belonging, purpose, safety, and self-worth.

Maintaining community connections is one of the hallmarks for healthy ageing and general wellbeing, and support networks are built through human connections; everyone needs the opportunity to meet different people, and develop interesting and fulfilling relationships.

Some people are naturally very comfortable in roles as “community connectors”. These people are generally the social, outgoing types, who are active in their communities and neighbourhoods, and know a lot of people through their activities.

Meet the McLean Care® Volunteer Team.

The McLean Care® Volunteers are a very special and treasured group of individuals who play a vital role in the health and happiness of our residents and clients. They have no hesitation in asking questions, meeting new people, teaching and sharing, lending a hand, and inspiring others to try.

Assisting older people to feel connected to their neighbourhoods and communities can be both exciting and challenging, yet the natural community connector understands how important it is for our residents and clients to make and maintain these connections, and find ways to make it happen.

We encourage our Volunteers to share their interests, passion, ingenuity and experience with our residents and clients, and invite them into both our residential and community care programs.

Is volunteering for me?

Volunteering is more than just something nice that people can do. Yes, it does feel great to help someone, but volunteering goes far deeper than that, and has the potential to make a very real impact in the lives of others, and give you a deeper sense of purpose and value, helping others and giving back to your community.

Assisting older people to feel connected to their neighbourhoods and communities can be both exciting and challenging, yet the natural community connector understands how important it is for our residents and clients to make and maintain these connections, and find ways to make it happen.

Volunteers get things done, have a ‘can do’ attitude, and make an enormous impact on the health and wellbeing of their communities, making a difference in day-to-day lives of so many. McLean Care® Volunteers enjoy their interactions with our residents and clients, sharing stories, experiences, skills, and introducing new and interesting activities.

As a McLean Care® Volunteer, we encourage you to volunteer the way that you feel will give greatest value both to our people and your own passions. Do you have an interesting skill to teach or share that you believe will enrich the experiences of our residents and clients, and add value to their lives?

“I would like to thank McLean Care on behalf of James and myself for the one hour of housekeeping which I reserve every week. The service is wonderful, and it has made our lives so very much more enjoyable.”
